If you are unfamiliar with any of the words in this history, click here to look them up in a dictionary.

This history is largely taken from:
'The first hundred years' by H. Wood Jarvis, in the pamphlet "Surbiton Parish Church: Beauty for Ashes" published in 1960 to celebrate the reconsecration of the rebuilt St Mark's Church,
and
the pamphlet "Saint Andrew, Surbiton, 1872-1972" by W. L. Catchpole, published in 1972 to celebrate the centenary of St Andrew's Church.

The book "Surbiton Bombed: Second World War air raids on Surbiton, Tolworth & Berrylands", by Mark Davison and Paul Adams, has useful details on Surbiton at this time, and interesting photographs of the bombed St Mark's Church.
