Fircroft Trust
One of our local charities which we support each year is the Fircroft Trust (formerly known as Mental Aid Projects). Here is a description of their work, from the first-hand experience of John Kelly, who has been deeply involved and committed to MAP over a long period of time.
"The Fircroft Trust is a Surbiton-based registered charity which has been in existence for 36 years. It provides residential care for 28 people with learning difficulties, and runs "Fircroft", a day centre for more than 80 people with mental health problems.
The charity has a close working relationship with other local organisations active in these fields, and with Kingston Council and the SW London and St George's Mental Health Trust. It is partly funded by statutory authorities, but it needs to raise at least £140,000 a year from other sources. This comes from various charitable organisations and generous individuals, but a substantial part comes from its shops. There is never enough money to do what the charity would like to do."
