The Parish of St Andrew & St Mark, Surbiton
About Us: Opportunities in The Parish

Opportunities

Christian community aims to value each individual for their particular gifts; the body cannot function properly unless everyone is playing their full and active part.

As a church we aim to play a positive role in the local community. Perhaps you are not sure about faith and God, or have other commitments on a Sunday morning; we still hope that our Church may play a positive role in your life and that you may contribute to our life as a Christian community.

"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone."
- 1 Corinthians 12:4

YMCA Christmas Lunch

Every Christmas in conjunction with the YMCA and local businesses we run a lunch for those who would otherwise be alone. Volunteers from the local community make this event possible, we wouldn't be able to do it without them – perhaps you might like to volunteer or make a donation one year?

Theatre

Recently, we put on a parish pantomime: Cinderella in Surbiton (February 2011) in aid of the Fircroft Trust. Many people from the local community took part and made the event a great success: children that attend SASM; the manager of the Fircroft Shop and the Lollipop Lady who works outside SASM school! Look out for more parish events like this.

Flower Arranging

The church has fresh flowers in it at all times and at festivals, weddings and funerals extra special displays. Flower arrangers, preferably with some availability in the week, are very welcome. Is this something you've always wanted to learn about, but never managed? Get in touch.

Toddler Group

Our Play and Stay Toddler group is run by the local community for the local community. Perhaps you want to come along, or could even volunteer to help run this group?

Using your skills

Perhaps you have a particular skill that you think our parish could use? This website is designed and maintained, for example, by someone who got married in St Andrew's Church and offered her professional expertise to help the community.

Our Church Buildings

We have spent a lot of time (and money!) transforming our buildings so that they can be used by the local community. If you are planning a charity event, children's party, local meeting, etc. we hope that you might consider using our church. We would love to keep the church open more regularly so that people can visit, especially on Saturdays, perhaps you have an hour spare when you could volunteer to sit in church?
