WORSHIP ON SUNDAY
We wish to make our services accessible to everyone whether or not they are a regular church-goer. The morning services usually take the form of the Eucharist, or Holy Communion, which celebrates God's love for all people through the offering, blessing and sharing of bread and wine, the Lord's body.
SUNDAY EARLY SERVICE
The 8 am Holy Communion service is a "spoken" service, using the Order from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer. There is a quiet reflective atmosphere and a concise address is usually offered. Even in the depths of winter, there is a regular 'core' of worshippers.
SUNDAY MAIN SERVICE
The 9:30 am service at St Mark's and 11.00 at St Andrew's use the Church of England Common Worship Book.
They include music, hymns and a sermon with members of the congregation assisting with readings, prayers and altar serving. St Mark's has a more simple style of worship, whereas at St Andrew's there is more movement and ritual, and incense is used according to tradition. Every week the young people meet in our Sunday school in a separate room. There is also a crèche where children too young for Sunday school can be looked after but still be a part of the worshipping community. The Sunday school rejoin the service in time for the communion or to receive a blessing.
On the first Sunday of the month there is often a baptism as part of the service.
There are also some Sundays when a main Parish service at 10.00 is held with both congregations joining at one church. The Calendar will advertise these dates.
SUNDAY EVENING SERVICE
The evening services are usually at St Andrew's. The services are reflective and follow a varied pattern including modern language Evensong, a Service of Taizé Worship (simple chants and prayers), the Ministry of Healing, prayer and study and Evensong with Benediction.
WEEKDAY SERVICES
Monday is kept as the parish Sabbath. On all other days it is our desire to keep both churches open during daylight hours.
Evening Prayer is said Tuesday to Saturday and the Eucharist is celebrated at St Mark's on Tuesday morning at 7.30, Thursday at 11.00 and Friday at 08.45, while at St Andrew's on Wednesday at 11.00.
